Check an EORI number
Without a valid EORI number a company cannot deal with customs in the EU. Check here for free whether an EORI number is active and, if the holder allows it, which name it belongs to.
How does this check work?
- Enter the EORI number with its country code, for example NL, BE, DE or FR. In most countries it resembles the VAT number.
- We query the EORI service of the European Commission (DG TAXUD).
- You see whether the number is valid and, if the holder consented, the name and address.
What to look out for
- A forwarder or importer without a valid EORI number cannot file customs declarations itself. That is odd for a logistics partner.
- Is the EORI number registered to a different name than the company you are dealing with? Someone may be using another company's number.
- Since Brexit, British EORI numbers (GB) are held in a separate UK system.

Frequently asked questions
What is an EORI number?
The Economic Operators Registration and Identification number. Every company importing or exporting goods in the EU needs it for customs.
Why don't I see a name?
The holder has to consent to publishing the name. Many companies don't; the number can still be valid.
Is the EORI number the same as the VAT number?
It often looks similar, but it is a separate number with its own registration.
