Check an IBAN
Received an invoice with a bank account you don't recognise? Check here for free whether the IBAN is valid, which bank it belongs to and in which country the account is held.
How does this check work?
- Type or paste the IBAN. Spaces are fine.
- We verify the check digits. A typo or a made-up number is caught immediately.
- You see the country of the account and, where known, the name of the bank.
What to look out for
- Is the account in a different country from the company? A German company with a Lithuanian account often means something is wrong.
- "Our bank details have changed" by email is the classic invoice fraud. Always call the company yourself on a number you look up.
- A valid IBAN does not tell you whose name the account is in. Only the bank can confirm that.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see whose name the account is in?
No, the account holder's name is not public. A valid IBAN only proves the number is correctly built.
What if the check digits are wrong?
Then the number does not exist as written. Don't pay; ask for the correct number through a channel you choose yourself.
Do you store the account number?
No. The free check only uses the number to verify it.
